Brand expression through material and form
As part of the UltiMaker S7 development team, I worked closely with product managers to refine how the UltiMaker ‘U’ brand mark is expressed on the printer itself. I proposed replacing the existing screen-printed logo with an embossed version integrated into the soft, milky Dibond side panels. This subtle detail uses the internal LED lighting to reveal the logo in use – creating a more refined and integrated brand presence without additional parts or surface treatments. This project demonstrates how brand design can be embedded directly into the product experience – quietly reinforcing identity through material, form, and light. It also helped define a new direction for how the UltiMaker brand is integrated into future 3D printers in the S series from Ultimaker, and highlights the value of working across disciplines to deliver thoughtful, brand-aligned solutions within real manufacturing constraints.
